What's so fun about camping?

While watching a survival show, the host said something like, "It's not supposed to be fun. If you're having fun, that's called camping." What's so fun about camping? I suppose if you're with people you like, that's one thing, but I don't understand what's supposed to be fun about lugging water, firewood, building a shelter, building a fire, etc.
